Buddypress has been around for a long time and no sign of it ever going away. Its a great way to create focus groups and currently only two options for Media which is the affordable Mediapress (looks ugly and doesn't always work) and rtMedia (starting price is $499).
I feel a plugin/addon to WP Media Folder could be accomplished and give people a better option. Keeping all files organized. You already offer the folder by user/email. What if you create a folder based on Buddypress Group and if you are a member of the group you can post to that folder and the built in short code would display the contents of that folder when someone clicks on Media tab.
Seems like a config on what you want to happen when someone clicks on the Media tab in the Buddypress Group... slideshow, gallery with or without captions, ability to download or not, etc..
You have a great plugin and I love the approach you are taking. Currently we are stuck using these other plugins like Mediapress or rtMedia for our Buddypress Groups but you could be a contender that people will pay for.
