Categorising Locations

We require to be able to apply two custom categorisation fields to locations. So one is a custom 'region' field the other a 'genre'. The region is a hierarchical field, so 'Scotland West' is part of 'Scotland' is part of 'UK'. We could load the Regions in advance as it is a set structure.
Locations would then be categorised accordingly. We are able to export custom location data into a csv and propose to do that daily and have this auto-imported daily.
We could include all parts of the 'Region' hierarchy as a single field.
We'd prefer that on the search form we can search by the Name of the Location, the Region or Genre but not have to put in a Name. So we could say filter all our locations by Genre first, then apply a further filter of Region. The map would then display all locations matching these criteria. If a name was entered or part of a name, that would also be applied but wouldn't be necessary to filter our locations list.

Question is can the My Maps Location extension handle this?
