Hello
Here's what I'm considering: creating a private space with Microsoft Office files (Excel/Word), images, PDFs, and videos. The files should therefore not be indexed by search engines. Here are my questions, please:
1/ All users, regardless of who they are, can view all documents (therefore, there's no management by user category or user), but they must have a username and password to access this space. Is this managed directly in the extension, or do I have to create ACLs in Joomla, and is this easy?
2/ Currently, the files are in Dropbox. With your integration, an updated file will be automatically updated in Joomla? However, I don't want a user to be able to modify the files in Joomla and have them synchronized to Dropbox, unless they're an administrator. Is this possible?
3/ With Dropbox, the files are also uploaded to Joomla: are they therefore duplicates? Or is the hosting space used Dropbox?
4/ Do all documents open directly online, or do you have to download them to view them? The same goes for videos: do they have to be downloaded, or can they be viewed online via a player? If a player is available, is it seamless for large videos?
5/ I think a usage policy should be created: can it be accepted when creating a user account and have a record of the acceptance?
Thanks

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, delays in processing support are usually extended outside the business days :)

1/ Yes, user role restrictions for file management are built into the extension and don't require complex Joomla ACL setup.
Documentation: https://www.joomunited.com/joomla-documentation/dropfiles/280-dropfiles-parameters#toc-manage-personal-user-file-repository

2/ Dropbox files sync automatically to Joomla when updated, but users cannot edit files through Dropfiles - they're read-only,
which meets your administrator-only editing requirement.

3/ Files stay on Dropbox servers; we only index file information, so no duplicates are created on your hosting.

4/ Our Google Previewer-based system allows direct online viewing of documents and videos without downloads, even for large files.

5/ Usage policy acceptance during account creation isn't currently supported in Dropfiles.

OK Thanks.
Just a little thing can you confirm me that we can only give access to one directory of Dropbox and not all the Dropbox access (because personnal documents are stocked too)

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me with more information.

When you connect Dropfiles to Dropbox, it creates a dedicated app-specific root folder within your Dropbox account.
All synchronization occurs only within this designated folder, keeping your other personal Dropbox files completely separate and unaffected.

Please go here for more details:

Hello
Regarding my question 1/ about creating ACLs, I'm not sure I understand everything in English:
Can a user create their account with their choice of password, and can this be validated by an admin? => Should I use a Joomla login module or a Dropfiles login module?
And do I need to define ACL rights in Joomla or Dropfiles so that they can only view documents? => I don't want any rights to add, modify, or delete documents, only view them?
Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to me with more information.

Dropfiles doesn't include its own login form - it relies on Joomla's built-in login system for user authentication.
Users will need to log in through Joomla's standard login process.

For managing user permissions, you can control what users can do within Dropfiles through the extension's settings.
The ACL file permissions can be configured directly in Dropfiles as detailed in the documentation link I provided:
https://www.joomunited.com/joomla-documentation/dropfiles/280-dropfiles-parameters#toc-3-acl-file-permission
This allows you to restrict users to view-only access, preventing them from adding, modifying, or deleting documents.

Cheers,
