I asked exactly the same question and got exactly the same answer.
I have now created a “download all” button myself using a snippet for functions.php.
It works wonderfully, the only thing left to do is to replace the standardized zip archive name individually.

It sounds like you might have overlooked one of our built-in features!
There's actually a "Download category" option you can enable under Main Settings > Frontend tab.
